Dataset specification

  • Title: GeoBasis Nuuk - Fluxmonitoring - AutochambersFen
  • Description: The Methane station (LGR) measures the methane and CO2 fluxes between soil and atmosphere in the fen during the field season (app. end of May until mid-October). The station was established in 2007 in the fen close to the InteractFen (Meteorology, Soil Properties, Snow Properties), EddyFen (Flux Monitoring) and SoilFen (Meteorology, Soil Properties) stations, where the soil is very wet and there is up to more than 1 m of peat. The system consists of six automatic chambers that open and close over a cycle of one hour. When a chamber closes an analyzer monitors the CO2 and CH4 concentration within the closed chamber. Comments: In 2014 chamber 3 and 4 were relocated to new spots and got new tubing. In 2016 the lids got renovated and chamber 1, 2, 5 and 6 got new tubing. 2019: Chambers 1, 2, 3 were exchanged with new chambers on same locations. 2020: Chambers 4, 5 and 6 were exchanged with new chambers on same locations. In 2019-2021 the station suffered from various problems causing gaps in data. The station was closed after the field season 2021. Fluxmonitoring:Fluxmonitoring GeoBasis Nuuk:The GeoBasis monitoring programme focuses on selected abiotic characteristics in order to describe the state of Greenlandic terrestrial environments and their potential feedback effects in a changing climate. Monitored plot data is up-scaled to a landscape level and is used to improve ecosystem models to be able to quantify these feedback mechanisms. The GeoBasis programme provides an active response to recommendations in international assessments such as ACIA and SWIPA; and is continuously being adapted based on AMAP and other international founded recommendations. Furthermore, the GeoBasis programme is directly involved in several international networks and research projects (e.g. the Circumpolar Active Layer Monitoring (CALM) programme, the Nordic Centre of Excellence DEFROST, the Danish Centre of Excellence CENPERM, the EU-projects PAGE21 and INTERACT, and the Arctic Research Centre at Aarhus University). The GeoBasis programme is divided into a number of sub-groups, including:
