Dataset specification

  • Title: GeoBasis Zackenberg - Automatic photo monitoring - Aucella slope
  • Description: Panoramic photos are captured from a boulder called 'Nansen blokken' about 480 meters up on the slope of Zackenberg. The photos cover almost the whole of the Zackenberg valley. Photos are captured every day around solar noon at 13:20. The photos taken from the position of Camera 3/AucellaSlope are overlooking the Northern part of the valley and the slope of Aucella Mountain. The camera was installed in 2001. From 2001-2005 the camera used was a Kodak DC90. From 2005 - 2006 the camera used was a Kodak CX 6200 RDC 365. From 2006 - 2008 the camera used was a Kodak Easyshare CX7530. From 2008 - 2015 a Kodak CX 6200 RDC 365 camera was used. For a short period in late may and june 2013 the camera was temporarily replaced with a HP Photosmart E427. In 2016 - a Canon EOS 1000D was installed. The camera at this position was not working in 2004 and there are only a very few photos from 2003. Automatic photo monitoring:Automatic photo monitoring GeoBasis Zackenberg:The GeoBasis monitoring programme focuses on selected abiotic characteristics in order to describe the state of Greenlandic terrestrial environments and their potential feedback effects in a changing climate. Monitored plot data is up-scaled to a landscape level and is used to improve ecosystem models to be able to quantify these feedback mechanisms. The GeoBasis programme provides an active response to recommendations in international assessments such as ACIA and SWIPA; and is continuously being adapted based on AMAP and other international founded recommendations. Furthermore, the GeoBasis programme is directly involved in several international networks and research projects (e.g. the Circumpolar Active Layer Monitoring (CALM) programme, the Nordic Centre of Excellence DEFROST, the Danish Centre of Excellence CENPERM, the EU-projects PAGE21 and INTERACT, and the Arctic Research Centre at Aarhus University). The GeoBasis programme is divided into a number of sub-groups, including:
